On Sept. 8, 2018, Cañon Lodge Care Center in Cañon City, Colorado, participated in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Pueblo, Colorado.
Twenty-two members of team Cañon Lodge Cruisers came out to the walk, including seven residents, along with associates and family members. They joined 60 other teams at the walk.
“It was an awesome experience,” said Shelby Townsend, admissions and marketing director. “Everyone came together to help other teams set up if needed, and we were all there for the same cause.”
The team is going strong with fundraising, too. So far, the center has raised $3,670 for the Alzheimer’s Association, placing it as the second-highest donor at the Pueblo walk. Organizers awarded the team with a gift certificate to East Coast Pizza for 10 people. Cañon Lodge Care Center is also currently ninth-highest in parent company Life Care Centers of America’s national team for fundraising.
How have the Cañon Lodge Cruisers accomplished this? Townsend shared that their main fundraiser was a garage sale but that the center hosts a fundraiser each month. These have included a chili cook off, a bake sale, a baked potato bar and breakfast burrito sales, an associate favorite.
