On Aug. 27, Cañon Lodge Care Center in Cañon City, Colorado, hosted a law enforcement appreciation event for local law enforcement personnel.
Kelsey Rottier, dietary manager, and Heather Cathcart, director of nursing, put their heads together and organized this event with the help of other associates. They wanted to have something positive in light of all of the negativity that has being going on throughout the nation regarding law enforcement.
The event was held at Harrison Park. All law enforcement personnel and their families were invited to take part, and approximately 30 guests attended.
Cañon Lodge provided hamburgers, hot dogs and sides for a barbecue. Associates also set up games, such as ping pong, volleyball, ring toss and several other kids’ games where participants could win token prizes. The inflatable games were a big draw for all ages – even two deputies took part in running through the obstacle course!
Though they didn’t go jumping in the bounce house, several Cañon Lodge residents came out to the event and enjoyed the food and the opportunity to thank the officers for their dedication.
Local businesses donated prizes that law enforcement personnel could win in a drawing. Prizes included gift certificates, Jeep tours and whitewater rafting.
Cañon Lodge Care Center also provided a custom designed T-shirt for each officer.
“The officers who attended seemed to have a great time,” said Rottier. “It was nice to see that they felt comfortable enough to stay all day and just enjoy the event. I think it is important to thank the officers of this community for all of the hard work they do 365 days a year.”
The facility hopes to make this an annual event.
