Michell Wisenant, certified nursing assistant, throwing the ball to dunk Amel Topic, executive director

On May 25, 2017, Cañon Lodge Care Center in Cañon City, Colorado, rented a dunk tank to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association.

Many associates eagerly lined up to dunk their boss, Executive Director Amel Topic, while raising money to fight Alzheimer’s. The dunk tank also gave community members, who were invited to attend, a fun way to participate as well.

“The money raised by staff absolutely goes to a good cause,” said Topic. “I was happy to volunteer and contribute. However, the water was really cold. I needed to take a few breaks! Next year, we will have all department heads take their time in the tank.”

Cañon Lodge Care Center has been a proud supporter of the Alzheimer’s Association for more than 10 years. It holds many events throughout the year to support the association.

These events, all open to the public, include bake sales, chili cook-offs, garage sales, breakfast burrito sales and the opportunity for employees to pay $1 each Friday to wear jeans for dress-down day.

Many organizations, including Cañon Lodge, participate in the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s. In 2016, the facility placed second in the region in fundraising for the Association. Though money is still being raised, the dunk tank was a fun and creative way to involve the community and associates in contributing to the fundraising process.
